Swords are one of the most amazing weapons with a long history. Their history is almost as old as the mankind. For surviving in this world, men had to use their mental strengths for preparing both defensive and attacking weapons. I won’t claim that sword was the earliest weapon, but it was among the earliest weapons men had used for their defense. So, the need to defend and attack led to the evolution of swords for sale.

The Earliest Bronze Sword

Nowadays, you find many swords for sale, but do you know how the earliest swords were made. Were they similar to the modern swords? Definitely not.

The earliest sword was made using bronze. There were a couple of methods of building swords from bronze. They were hammered out of a bronze lump or cast in a mould.

Then, they were grounded to the final shape. The first method was preferred more because it had been identified that cast bronze was apt to be fragile. However, forging had the impact of tempering and hardening the metal. Once the sword was established, it was decorated based upon the requirements of the users.

Transformation of Swords

Many call swords as the “Queen of All Weapons”. Since the advent of these weapons, beauty possessed in all of its forms. The classification of swords altered time to time, mainly because of the changes to the types, style and design of the blades. However, the purpose of usage of swords remained somewhat. Over the centuries and even today, swords have been used for inflicting wounds and stabbing.

The swords varied in terms of their geographical sword, as there were Asian and Oriental swords, African swords and European swords. These swords differed in terms of their sizes, shapes, and types of blades. When it comes to classification of the swords, both traditional and modern swords can be classified into certain groups, including two edged straight swords, one edged curved or straight swords, curved sword with expanded blade, Egyptian Falchion, and curved pointed swords etc.

Why Swords varied time to time?

Multipurpose use of sword is a basic factor that caused variation in the swords

The abilities and skills of the swordsmen and the metals available to the swordsmith for manufacturing the swords are pretty significant factors that led to variation in the swords over the centuries. This can be figured out from the fact that when the metal working enhanced and the introduction of steel took place, the swords became stronger, thinner and longer.

Use of the sword was another factor that caused variation in the swords. This pretty much depended upon the defenses adopted by the opponents and how it is wielded. The swords like Scimitar were useful in horse mounted attacks. The weapons like Rapier were useful in finding little gaps in the armor of the opponents. The axe like swords like falchion and khopesh were handy in delivering percussive blows that could crush the armor and break the bones.

Another huge factor was the speed of use which improved significantly time to time. The modern swords offer more speed. So, speed is determined as a factor that caused variation in the swords.
